There is no panel, no weighted average, no community score. Every venue here is on the list because one person put it there and is prepared to be wrong in public about it.

A venue that is competent at everything and remarkable at nothing does not make it. The bar is a reason to cross town — a dish, a room, an hour you would rearrange an evening for.

Visits are paid in full, at the going rate, without announcing the visit in advance. Where a venue page says so, it says so on the page.

Nobody pays to be listed and nobody can. Reservation and website links go straight to the venue or the platform it uses, and none of them carry a tracking tag that pays this site.

Addresses, hours, distinctions and reservation links are checked against the venue's own site before publishing. Every venue page carries the date that check last happened.

Stars, points and keys are recorded as facts with the year and the source they came from. The editorial text and photography of the guides that award them is theirs, and stays theirs.

Restaurants get a score out of ten. It is one rater's number, published as a critic's review rather than dressed up as an aggregate, because pretending otherwise would misrepresent what it is.

A venue that shuts, slips, or changes hands gets marked or removed. A guide that only ever adds is a list of places that used to be good.
